The time of the full moon phase is very exciting. It can be a time of many emotions, such as you feeling a surge of energy and want to do it all or feeling like you need to stay home and not deal with people for the next couple of days. Also, keep in mind that you’re not crazy when it comes to feeling out of sort 3 days (sometimes a week before) before and 3 days after the day of the actual full moon. Read on to discover some Full Moon Rituals for Transformation that you can put into practice.

While the moon is only full for a matter of seconds as it makes its way to the next phase, the energy is powerful and, as beings who are mostly made up of water, we are highly influenced by the moon phases whether or not we realize it. Ask anyone who works in the ER and they’ll tell you that people become crazier and there’s a spike in ER visits during the full moon.

So what does this have to do with transformation? Many things! The moon is in relation to our emotions, intuition, and our goddess element. The full moon is also a great time to release things since our energy is peaking at this time. We have enough energy to address a concern, good or bad, and give it to the universe. Side note: our energy level can peak at multiple times throughout the month. It’s not limited to the full moon.

Below are excerpts from my first book, To Be Goddess.

To Be Goddess | Tia Johnson

Ritual #1: Connecting with the full moon and the goddess element

  1. Go outside to a safe place where you will not be disturbed and can see the moon.
  2. A picture of the moon as well as using your imagination to picture the full moon will suffice.
  3. Survey the night sky and take several slow deep breaths.
  4. Surround yourself with goddess golden light.
  5. Look at the moon and ask for her wonderful energy to shower over you as you absorb the energy.
  6. Invoke the Goddess and communicate with her. Talk about your hopes, fears, how you want to grow, and expand.
  7. When done, thank the moon and the goddess and reflect.

Ritual #2: Connecting with the full moon air ritual and Goddess Athena

“As I inhale, my eyes are open; as I exhale, I close my eyes and I think of nothing. I just ask goddess Athena to grant me wisdom and enjoy the breezes of the night air. It just feels cleansing. After several deep breaths, I begin to set intentions. Since the element of air deals with wisdom, I tend to set my intentions in regards to achieving sacred knowledge. Of course, you can set your intentions as you see fit for your highest good. While I’m setting my intentions, I imagine that with each inhalation I am receiving knowledge and with each exhalation, I am releasing any falsehoods. Thus, I am opening my mind to possibilities and understandings.”

Ritual #3: Connecting with the full moon water ritual and Goddesses Ix Chel and Lakshmi

“When I come home from work, I prepare the bathroom for the ritual by asking Archangel Michael to clear the space. Then, I place my iPhone in a secure place in the bathroom and have a playlist playing music (sometimes I burn incense). Next, I get into the shower and create another sacred space by surrounding myself a white light. So, now, it’s a sacred space within a sacred space. After I center myself, I invite goddesses Ix Chel and Lakshmi into my sacred space. When I invite them into my sacred space I imagine healing an abundance taking place as well as lower energies are being washed down the drain.”

Ritual #4: Sending notes to the universe

Another form of transformation and releasing what’s holding you back is to write a note to the universe and let go of the outcome. It’s one of my favorite things to do. Some people like to use special paper that frizzles when it’s burned but any paper can be used. To do this ritual, start off by centering yourself via taking deep breaths. Then on a sheet of paper write the things that are holding you back and things you would like to attract in your life.

You can get as creative as you want with this. If you want to release worries about transformation, you can write about that or whatever comes to mind. Next, burn the paper. I like to have a glass of water nearby for good fire safety practices. You can burn the paper into an ashtray, on a grill, anywhere that’s safe for the paper to burn completely. As the paper burns, think about releasing and attracting. Inhaling and exhaling. Giving and receiving.

Ritual #5: Connecting with the full moon via oracle cards

For us visual learners, using oracle cards provides great visual insight into how you can transform. You can pull a three card oracle spread (see How to Read Oracle Cards for Guidance and Insight). While you’re shuffling, ask for transformational insight and be open to the messages. Take a picture of the oracle cards and reflect on them throughout the week.

What areas in your life are you looking to transform? Which ritual will you start with?
