I’m really excited to write this blog post because a popular question I have been receiving lately is can I talk about the chakras. I most definitely can! Chakra talk, such as understanding the chakras, how to work and heal with them, is one of the training Guidance Sets for the month of August in The Spiritual Lifestyle Collective.
Before I dive into how we can align our chakras for purposeful living, I want to give you some background about the chakras. The term chakra is Sanskrit for spinning wheel. The chakras are the energy centers in our bodies. Imagine energetic spinning discs of different colors in our bodies but in the spiritual form. The seven main chakras are located in a straight line in the center of a specific area of our bodies as shown in the image above. There are other chakras, such as the chakras in our hands and ears, that aren’t in the center of the body. There are also several chakras above the crown chakra and below the root chakra.
Each chakra has several purposes or areas of focus, its personal color, vibration, and are linked to one or several organs. If one chakra is misaligned, then another chakra is also in need of being tuned as they are related in some form. In other words, if your heart chakra is out of sync (which can take the form of chest pains), then the solar plexus may also need healing since that chakra is in relation to personal power (which will show up in the physical as a need to set boundaries).
The information I’m providing below is one of many ways we can align our chakras. So don’t feel overwhelmed in the process. Take your time. You may even want to repeat the process several times before you start working with another chakra.
Also, keep in mind that there are texts explaining what age the chakras develop. I have met children whose third eye was already working well and that chakra is supposed to develop around 15 years of age. Every person is different. Don’t be hard on yourself during this process.
Now that we have that covered, let’s dive into how we can align our chakras for purposeful living.
- Root aka Base Chakra
Location: Base of spine
Focus: Foundations
Color: Red
Glands/Organs: Adrenal, kidneys, colon
To Align: Take care of your physical body, strengthen relationships such as with people and money, apply best safety practices throughout life
Purposeful Living: Become conscious of your spending habits, mindsets about material things, and the relationships you choose to build. You can do this by creating an excel spreadsheet stating your expenses and only hang around people who don’t bring drama into your life. - Sacral Chakra
Location: Below the navel
Focus: Creativity, sex
Color: Orange
Glands/Organs: Reproductive system, genitals, prostate, bladder
To Align: Focus on equally giving and receiving in your life, allow your creativity to flow
Purposeful Living: Focus on creating environments that allow your creativity to soar. You may redecorate your living space or travel. What does sex mean to you? It’s a loaded question. You may have to debunk some mindset concerns or explore that area of your life to understand it for yourself. - Solar Plexus Chakra
Location: Above the navel
Focus: Personal power, identity, self-worth
Color: Yellow
Glands/Organs: Nervous system, stomach, liver, pancreas
To Align: Develop your strengths, define who you are for yourself, establish boundaries
Purposeful Living: You may want to take self-confidence and posture trainings. In addition, you can have conversations with yourself to ascertain how YOU identify you and become comfortable with setting boundaries, such as saying, “No” and claiming space.
- Heart Chakra
Location: Center of chest
Focus: Empath, vulnerability, compassion
Color: Green
Glands/Organs: Heart, circulatory system, thymus
To Align: Know that being vulnerable is a form of being strong, see love in unsuspecting places
Purposeful Living: You may want to pick a person who you can be completely open to about life, love, and wonder. You may also choose to be less rigid and practice unconditional love with yourself, the elderly, or a homeless veteran.
- Throat Chakra
Location: Throat
Focus: Speaking up, speaking your truth, self-expression
Color: Blue
Glands/Organs: Thyroid, parathyroid, throat, mouth
To Align: Understanding the power of words, expression of all kinds via your voice, such as speech, humming, and singing
Purposeful Living: You may make the decision to no longer speak softly, join Toastmasters, take singing or speech therapy lessons. To assist you with this chakra check out this post, You Don’t Have To Be A Professional Speaker To Speak Your Truth. - Third Eye Chakra
Location: Between the eyebrows
Focus: Intuition, visions
Color: Purple, violet
Glands/Organs: Pineal and pituitary glands, left eye, nose
To Align: Trust your intuition, see beyond the mundane
Purposeful Living: You may make the decision to trust yourself and your intuition. You can make the decision to follow a vision and be proactive in making your vision a reality. - Crown Chakra
Location: Top of the head
Focus: Connecting with Spirit, knowing what cannot be proven during a certain time, trusting your inner knowledge
Color: Violet, white
Glands/Organs: Pineal gland, central nervous system, right eye
To Align: Connection with higher self, divine inspiration
Purposeful Living: You can begin to trust your inner thoughts and messages from Spirit without need proof. You can be a healthy skeptic but still, trust the process and know that this world has more to offer than what you may have been told as a child.
Wow! I never knew this. I think I would focus on my Solar Plexus Chakra, I get too nervous over little things haha. Thanks for this post, help me understand what I need to drift my focus on,
I’m pretty familiar with chakras, but this has some good reminders. My mom has been having issues with nausea and severe indigestion for the last couple weeks. Sounds like she needs to work on her throat and solar plexus.
I’ve been learning about chakras the last few months, this is a great and easy to read guide. Sometimes reading about chakras can get complicated. Thank you!
