As the sun sets and darkness falls, it’s time to transition from the energy of the day to the energy of the night. For us magickal folk, this can be a time for connecting with the magick and mystery of the universe, for nurturing the soul, and for setting intentions for the next day. Nighttime is my favorite time of the day. I get charged by the night and my creativity flows more at night. There is just something special about the energy of the night! I feel more connected to the Goddess at night as well.



Magickal Nighttime Practices 

Release The Day’s Energy

Before you settle down for the night, take a few minutes to release any lingering stress, negativity, or worries from the day. You can do this by visualizing a white light surrounding you and pushing away any unwanted energy, or by smudging yourself with sage or palo santo.

Connect With Your Dreams

Before you go to sleep, set an intention to remember your dreams. Keep a dream journal by your bed to record any dreams you have in the night. This can help you connect with your subconscious and gain insight into your inner self.

Practice Gratitude

Take a moment to reflect on the day and express gratitude for any positive experiences or blessings you received. You can say a simple prayer or affirmation, or write down three things you’re grateful for in a journal.

Set Intentions For The Next Day

As you prepare to sleep, take a few moments to set intentions for the next day. Visualize yourself achieving your goals, and focus on positive energy and abundance. You can also write down your intentions in a journal or on a piece of paper and place it under your pillow.



Connect With The Moon

The nighttime is a great time to connect with the cycles of the moon. If it’s a full moon or new moon, spend some time outside gazing at the moon and feeling its energy. You can also perform a moon ritual or spell to harness its power.

Nighttime Meditation

Find a quiet and comfortable place where you won’t be disturbed. Sit or lie down in a comfortable position. Close your eyes and take a deep breath in through your nose and slowly exhale through your mouth. Continue to breathe deeply and slowly, allowing your body to relax.

Visualize yourself walking in a beautiful forest at night. The moon is full and the stars are shining bright. You feel safe and protected as you walk deeper into the forest. As you continue to walk, you come across a clearing. In the center of the clearing, you see a large crystal surrounded by candles. Approach the crystal and stand in front of it.

Close your eyes and place your hands on the crystal. Feel its energy flowing through your body, grounding you and connecting you to the earth.

As you stand there, say the following words:

“Darkness surrounds me, but I am not afraid. I am protected and guided by the divine. May the power of the moon and the stars bring me strength and courage.”

Sit with the crystal and allow its energy to fill you up. When you feel ready, take a deep breath and slowly open your eyes.

Give thanks to the universe for the experience and blow out the candles. Slowly make your way back to your physical body, feeling refreshed and renewed.

Remember to always ground yourself after meditation and stay hydrated. This nighttime magical meditation can help you find peace and guidance in the darkness, and connect you to the power of the universe.


Nighttime Protection Spell


White candle


Black tourmaline crystal


Light the white candle.

Sprinkle salt in a circle around you.

Hold the black tourmaline crystal in your hand.

Close your eyes and take a deep breath.

Visualize a protective white light surrounding you.

Say the following words: “I call upon the powers of the universe to protect me. May this black tourmaline crystal absorb any negativity and protect me from harm. So mote it be.”

Place the black tourmaline crystal in the salt circle.

Thank the universe for its protection.

Blow out the candle and go to bed with the knowledge that you are safe and protected.

Short Version:

Take several deep breaths, if possible, open a window to let the nighttime air in your home, and say, “I call upon the powers of the universe to protect me. May this black tourmaline crystal absorb any negativity and protect me from harm. So mote it be.”

Thank the universe for its protection.

Nighttime magickal practices are a great way to release spiritual debris from the day, reconnect with yourself and deepen your magick, relax and recharge, and get prepared for the following day. Similar to the magickal morning and midday practices, experiment with the practices, have fun, and discover which practices resonate with you the most. Before you realize it, you’ll add your personal twist to these practices and make them part of your spiritual lifestyle.
